YWCA Greater Charleston

Our inaugural MLK Celebration was one of the first national tributes of its kind. First held on January 15, 1972, this regional event has grown to encompass events across 10 days and attract an estimated 30,000 attendees each year. Last year, nearly 700 MLK Business & Professional Breakfast tickets were sold to business and community leaders of all levels, and 128 bands, marchers, floats, and groups marched in the MLK Parade as a crowd of 3,000 cheered them on and NBC WCBD news 2 covered the event live.

We love that Charleston wholeheartedly supports this tribute, in which individuals, church leaders, members of the media, companies, government agencies, politicians, and many others all come together for a single purpose: to eliminate racism in our region.
